Another large scale solar PV plant in Portugal started commercial operation

On December 6, 2022 the 63.5 MW plant Pessegueiro was successfully connected to the Portuguese electricity grid.

The new large-scale plant Pessegueiro is located in Palmela (Portugal) close to Lisbon and will produce around 127 GWh of electrical energy per year, which is enough to cover the annual power supply of a city with 26,000 homes.

The Smartenergy Team proved its commitment to excellence and delivered this great project, which was sold to a major Swiss utility, on schedule. In the face of challenges like the disruption of value chains and political tensions the selected EPC`s construction team managed to install 120,000 solar modules to complete the Pessegueiro plant which will lead to a reduction of carbon emissions by more than 35,000 tons per year.

The plant will be supervised and managed by Smartenergy Asset Management AG and the offtake of the produced electricity is secured through a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Muon Electric Lda., the power trading arm of Smartenergy.

The potential for solar PV plants on the Iberian Peninsula is huge, Smartenergy approaches the market as a one-stop shop through the whole lifecycle of projects.
