The Sizandro H2 Project is a renewable hydrogen initiative developed by Smartenergy in Torres Vedras, Portugal, whose core objective is the production and deployment of green hydrogen across the full value chain — from generation to end use. The project is part of a broader effort to accelerate decarbonization and promote sustainable energy systems.
Key highlights of the project include:
- 5 MW installed electrolysis capacity
- ~1,100 Nm³/h nominal production
- ~773 tonnes of green hydrogen per year
Sizandro H2 will demonstrate the integration of hydrogen within a defined region, covering:
- Production and storage
- Transport and distribution
- Supply to local industries and mobility applications
The hydrogen produced will be injected into the gas grid and supplied to industrial users with high fossil fuel demand, as well as to heavy-duty transport solutions in the region.
By addressing multiple stages of the hydrogen ecosystem, Sizandro H2 contributes to building a scalable and resilient renewable gas infrastructure in Portugal.
The project is co-funded under Portugal’s PRR through the ATE Business Innovation Agenda (see project sheet here).
